FREE BIBLE STUDY TOOL

Now more than ever before, we find ourselves with time. So much time, a lot of us are walking around thinking wondering what to do with our hands.
Picture
With quarantines, cancellation, travel bans, schedule changes, and lock down we are having to reevaluate how we spend our time.

Churches all over the globe, organizations, teachers, leaders and more have stepped up to the plate to provide free resources to keep us learning and growing during this time. Scriptures are being shared. Prayer are being shared. Encouraging words. worship songs and more are filling our social media feeds.

None of that however replaces the need for us to be spending our own private time in the Word of God.

Studying the Bible can be hard, but what a better time to be digging into the scriptures than now?

I get it, It's a big book full of lots of little books. Sometimes with hard names and words to pronounce, much less read. How are you supposed to just look at it and know what's going on, who wrote it, and where to really begin?

What if I told you that it doesn't have to be so intimidating. That you could actually teach the Bible to yourself, piece by piece?

Back many months ago (during that long stint of hotel living the Johnston crew endured) I created a tool to help people study the scriptures and teach yourself the Bible. Using The Core Four tool when studying the Bible provides a step-by-step system to use when you pick up your Bible. Devotionals at times can be easier and even books written by people who read the Bible themselves, but those aren't supposed to replace our personal time studying the scriptures.

When I released this back in 2019, it looked a little different (you can go back into the archives to find a few different versions). This time, I wanted to create something a little smaller you could print, cut out, and tuck away in your Bible or journal. I also included some of my favorite, free online resources you can use to answer questions along the way.

If you have any questions along the way, feel free to reach out!

Note that these questions are not my own. I have just been using these questions in my mentoring and discipling for years, and threw them together to be able to share with you!

KITCHEN CONVERSATION

11/19/2019

The Holidays are coming.
According to the retail stores, they've been around since October.
Whether you love or dread the Holidays, the time in the kitchen, around the dinner table, and commercial breaks in the football games leave plenty of time for conversation.

If I polled a lot of people (I didn't, but I can take a good guess here) I would assume, that the biggest stresser of the holidays is the conversation.

"What will we talk about?
What will be said?
Are they going to comment again on how I look?
Can we stop talking about my relationship or parent status?
Am I prepared for Uncle (_____) to say (fill in the blank)?
I'll just go, eat and leave"

Family can be enjoyable, and family can also be tough. Even though we are cut from the same cloth, we are all sewn different.

Whether you resonate with all the things I said above, and you've already found yourself taking some deep breaths just thinking about it, or you're getting excited looking forward to the nostalgia and the time with your people, let me encourage you to be intentional this holiday season.

That being said, I want to give you some conversation starters, or questions to help you feel more prepared to be intentional and guide the conversation this Thanksgiving and Christmas.

note that these questions are not surface level like "how are you?" Be prepared and hopeful for conversation. You may learn something new about yourself and a family member. Even if you won't be with family this holiday season, these are questions you can use with friends.

What is the most fun thing you've done recently?
What is the greatest thing that has happened to you since I've seen you last?
What is something tough you have had to walk through lately?
What is something you miss from Thanksgivings/Christmases past?
Do you have a favorite holiday tradition?
Can you tell me a funny story about one of your past holidays?
What is something you have been learning about yourself lately?
Have you read any good books recently?

You can even ask more specific questions like these:
What is something you are learning about God?
What is God teaching you?
What is your favorite scripture for Thanksgiving/Christmas?
Do you have a need you need to be met that I can pray over?

Choosing to ask these questions is a choice. Choosing to try and enjoy your family is a choice.
Let me encourage and challenge you, don't just show up and eat this Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If you found yourself here from my Instagram account (@bnrjohnston) then you have seen me rave about all sorts of products, mostly ones not for me. I mean, it's a lot easier to think about the girls most days than it is to think about myself. Enter PinkBlush! PinkBlush is women's & maternity clothing brand located in CA. All their clothing is said to be "designed specifically with you, the modern mother in mind." They also claim that their items can be "worn during pregnancy into motherhood and beyond." I can definitely appreciate something that can be so versatile!
*disclaimer, you do not have to be a mom to purchase and wear their clothing*

I am thankful for the opportunity they have given me to try some new things out! These light blue chambray drawstring tie overalls were fun to try out and {attempt} to style.

You should know, that the item was given to me free of cost to try and review. Just with anything however, all of the opinions are 100% my own.

My Stats:
5 foot 2 inches tall
129 pounds
7 months postpartum w/ baby #2
Wearing Size Small

FIT: Length wise, they are a little too long for me. Thankfully the straps are adjustable. I also rolled the cuffs twice to help with the length. I was able to wear them comfortably, but they did feel tighter around the hips/waist area than what I normally wear.

QUALITY: This particular item is chambray material. so it is not think or heavy like normal overalls. That being said, I still think they are well made. In my opinion, they are not too thin either. You should know that I have not washed them yet, so I cannot give you any information in regards to how well they wash/dry. They are a "hand wash only" item.

PRICE: Thanks to PinkBlush, I received this item free of charge in exchange for my thoughts and opinions.

OVERALL I will say, this was something new for me to try BUT I did received so many compliments. I felt like this item best fit my style, comfort level, and personality. However, the way the thickness of the chambray material didn't leave a lot for the imagination in the hip and butt area. (Please note, it was not see-through, not even a little. No skin showed.) Even in the heat of SE Georgia, I still wear pants a lot of the time so this was perfect with a tank top to run out for coffee or run errands in. It is something I could nurse in, and I would even say this is an item I could babywear in and snap the buckles around the outside of a cloth style wrap. This will be a staple for my wardrobe for the summer and fall.

LOVED
*
The Pockets
*The Style
*The Front Tie
*Breastfeed-ability (is that even a word?!)

DIDN'T LOVE
*The cut of the back
*The fit on hips/butt area
